About Laolu Ogundele
I graduated from the University of Ibadan College of Medicine in 2014 and moved to the US in 2019 as a non-traditional IMG, five years out from medical school. I had to rebuild from the ground up: studying for and passing all my Step exams, finding US clinical experience with limited connections, and learning how the Match actually works. In 2021 I matched into residency. Today I'm wrapping up Family Medicine residency at UT Health Science Center at Athens, licensed in Texas and Indiana, and building my own Direct Primary Care practice. I know how confusing and lonely this road can feel, especially with a gap after graduation. I mentor IMGs so they can skip the guesswork, avoid the mistakes I made, and apply with a realistic, focused plan.
